Role Description:
Headspace is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Flutter focused, to support our Care Experience team. This team supports the member experience when seeking human care, specifically coaches, therapists, and psychiatrists, covering the full journey of finding the right provider and maintaining continuous engagement, in support members’ mental health and meeting them where their needs are. This assignment supports development and delivery of scalable, high quality mobile systems and features, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with our backend services and bring Headspace’s mission to life.
Deliverables:
Design and develop maintainable and flexible services for mission-critical systems that directly support mental healthcare delivery.
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to gather requirements and write RFCs and technical specifications to solve technical and business problems end to end.
Effectively communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Use business and technical knowledge to recommend thoughtful tradeoffs between complexity, quality, and delivery speed.
Maintain high standards for documentation, code quality, code reviews and operational excellence.
Contribute to and influence system architecture decisions, product quality and SLA targets.
Apply best practices in testing, monitoring, alerting, and observability.
Requirements:
5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
3+ years of experience developing with Flutter and Dart, including familiarity with the Flutter framework, state management approaches, and third-party plugin integration.
Experience working within a hybrid native/Flutter or full Flutter codebase, with working knowledge of Swift and/or Kotlin for native platform channel integration.
Proficiency with mobile architecture and design patterns (e.g., MVC, MVVM, BLoC).
Proficiency with Git version control systems and other essential mobile development tools.
Experience writing robust unit, widget, and integration tests in Flutter (e.g., flutter_test, Maestro), including edge-case handling.
Demonstrated ability to deliver in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with product managers, designers, and engineers in a remote-friendly environment.
Track record of delivering complex projects across product and technology initiatives.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and keep stakeholders aligned.
BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Nice to have:
Experience with native mobile development (Android and/or iOS), including the respective SDKs, platform channels, and app release/store submission workflows.
Experience with flutter_bloc or similar state management solutions (e.g., Provider).
Experience with Server-Driven UI (SDUI) patterns, where the client renders dynamic UI from backend-defined payloads.
Experience with feature flagging/experimentation tools (e.g., Statsig) in a mobile context.
Experience integrating real-time messaging (e.g., PubNub or similar pub/sub systems) into a mobile app.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for mobile app builds, testing, and release automation.
Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., S3, CloudFront) as they relate to mobile content delivery.
