Full-stack Engineer (FDE Pair) for Concourse
Full-time · Remote (Offshore) · ~4 hours/day overlap with US Eastern Time
Pair 1:1 with a forward-deployed engineer on a specific government client engagement — turning their plans into shipped Claude-powered software, end to end. Roughly 70% backend, 30% frontend.
About The Product
Concourse is an early-stage, fast-growing startup building AI-powered software for state and local governments. This is the CEO’s second venture after a successful exit.
We sell technology to state and local governments, aiming to improve public services by replacing legacy, inefficient systems. The core problem we address is the disconnect between tax payments and perceived government inefficiency — often due to outdated technology.
We’re building an AI-native company where every team member is empowered to use AI tools like Claude to automate their work. Our team has a hub in Flatiron, NYC, and we support remote roles where it fits the role.
Why This Role
Work on Real Engagements
Pair with a forward-deployed engineer on a single client at a time. The APIs, pipelines, and small apps you build go straight into production demos and deliveries.
Frontier AI, Every Day
Live inside Claude Code, Claude agents, and the latest tooling. AI-assisted coding isn’t an optional perk here — it’s the default.
Steep Learning Curve
Sit one degree away from senior FDEs and the founder. Soak up how to scope, build, and ship AI products to non-technical buyers under real deadlines.
Ground Floor
Join an early-stage, fast-growing startup and ship work that has obvious business impact from day one.
What You’ll Do
- Pair 1:1 with a forward-deployed engineer on a single client engagement — they own the relationship; you own making the software work
- Build the backend (~70% of the role): APIs, data models, ingestion, integrations, and the orchestration glue that wraps Claude into a real product
- Build the frontend (~30% of the role): lightweight React UIs that let a government official actually use the system
- Write and iterate on Claude prompts, agent configs, skills, and Claude Code workflows that solve the client’s specific problem
- Prep and clean client data so it’s usable by our AI pipelines (parsing legacy exports, normalizing schemas, building small loaders)
- Run tight feedback loops — your FDE comes back from a client call with new requirements, you turn them around the same day
- Pick up patterns and contribute them back to our shared platform so the next engagement starts further along
What We’re Looking For
- 1–3 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent project history that proves you
ship
- Strong fluency in Python and/or TypeScript/Node (your primary skill)
- Working fluency in React + Tailwind or similar — enough to build a clean, simple UI on top of your own backend
- Comfort spinning up small full-stack apps end-to-end: API, data model, simple UI, deployment
- Daily, fluent use of AI coding tools — Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini-CLI, or similar. We will ask you to show us your workflow.
- High-agency builder mindset: you’d rather try, ship, and iterate than spec for two weeks
- Clear spoken and written English and the ability to communicate async with a US-based team
- Available for ~4 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern Time (roughly 9am–1pm ET)
Nice to Have
- A portfolio of side projects, hackathon work, or small products you built solo or in a tiny team
- Experience with agentic AI orchestration (LangGraph, custom agent loops, multi-step pipelines)
- Worked at an early-stage startup before
- Familiarity with messy real-world data (PDFs, government datasets, scraped sources, legacy CSVs)
- Light DevOps fluency — Docker, a cloud deploy, basic CI
We offer
- We welcome new ideas and allow you to make an immediate impact on the team.
- Flexible Paid time off (PTO for any reason, including sick days (no specified limits) and flexible work schedule).
- Personal laptop.
- Health and wellness package.
- Fully remote.
As this is an English-speaking role, we kindly ask that all applications be submitted with a CV in English.
