About the Role:

We’re expanding our Central Data Team with Data Specialists who build, improve, and maintain the data products our clients rely on. The Data Specialist plays a critical role in transforming messy, raw data into high-quality metrics that our customers use to analyze companies and make important decisions.

The core of this role is applying strong judgment to shape imperfect data into accurate, consistent, scalable, and analytically meaningful outputs. This requires understanding what the data represents, identifying where it can go wrong, and developing the methodologies, business logic, and QA needed to make it trustworthy.

Our data often presents complex, ambiguous problems with no obvious right answer. You may construct a representative panel from imperfect source data, identify and account for sources of sample bias, investigate outliers, create an index, develop rules to classify and enrich data, map entities into consistent taxonomies, or use regex and LLM-based approaches to solve difficult tagging problems.

Each customer has unique business questions, data structures, and definitions of success. The Data Specialist works closely with internal teams to interpret these needs, resolve ambiguity in the underlying data, and design solutions that balance accuracy, scalability, and customer expectations. You’ll be accountable not just for producing an answer, but for understanding why it’s correct, where it could be wrong, and how confident we should be in it.

This is a data problem-solving role rather than primarily a business intelligence or reporting role. Success requires strong analytical thinking, intellectual curiosity, comfort working with incomplete or inconsistent data, and a willingness to dig deeply into the details to make the data better.

As Our Data Specialist, you will:

• Take ownership of high-impact data work with guidance. Build, improve, and maintain datasets and methodologies that are relied upon by internal teams and leading investors around the world.
• Solve complex data problems. Develop methodologies and business logic to transform, classify, enrich, normalize, and validate imperfect data.
• Work with massive amounts of data to answer important questions. Use our proprietary methods and techniques to understand why our data works, not just how to produce it.
• Investigate data quality and accuracy issues. Dig into anomalies, outliers, inconsistencies, and unexpected patterns to understand their root causes and develop robust solutions.
• Identify and account for sources of error and bias. Understand how sampling, coverage, source-data limitations, and other factors can affect the accuracy and interpretation of our metrics.
• Use AI and tooling to work smarter. Leverage AI for queries, investigations, debugging, tagging, and repetitive tasks while rigorously validating its outputs.
• Become a trusted resource for internal stakeholders and clients. Contribute to data feeds, custom analyses, and reports while helping teams investigate and answer important questions.
• Improve the products, pipelines, and data feeds you own. We value curiosity and experimentation, and we expect you to follow established best practices while also questioning the status quo and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Learn or sharpen SQL, Python, and PySpark skills starting with our two-month new hire training program covering technical fundamentals as well as our internal tools and processes.
